Image: On behalf of UGA's History Department, I am pleased to report that our campaign to establish the John C. Inscoe Professorship in Southern History is now well underway. This new position honors John’s storied career at the University of Georgia, one that spanned nearly 35 years. Now retired, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having taught thousands of students, published dozens of articles, and edited and authored fifteen books on Southern history, with a special focus on the history of Appalachia. John’s service to the wider field is also legendary. He served for many years as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Southern Historical Association, editor of the Georgia Historical Quarterly, and more recently, editor of the acclaimed New Georgia Encyclopedia. We invite you to commemorate John’s life and legacy by helping endow this professorship. All donor names will be presented to John in an honor roll (not including gift amounts) as a keepsake of this special recognition. Thanks to the many alumni, family and friends who have already contributed to this professorship, we are almost half way to our goal! If you haven't already, please join me in supporting this initiative, which will guarantee that John’s passion for Southern history will live on forever at the University of Georgia.
